Mizuno merchandise collection for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon
The unique graphics on the clothing were designed by illustrator and art director Sjoerd Verbeek. Can you picture yourself running in a shirt emblazoned with iconic symbols of Amsterdam? Or sporting designs inspired by Rembrandt’s The Night Watch? The merchandise collection includes both functional running gear and leisure clothing and can only be purchased at the International Marathon Expo on 18, 19 and 20 October.
Behind the designs
Illustrator and art director Sjoerd Verbeek works with precision and a love of design, creating strong, clean graphics. He drew his inspiration for the merchandise collection from the City of Amsterdam and the Year of Rembrandt. The city is brimming with culture, history, character and beautiful buildings. Sjoerd’s illustrations feature the Olympic Stadium, where all distances finish, the famous canals, the Rijksmuseum and the distinctive Amsterdam bollard.
The Year of Rembrandt
As part of the year-long celebration of Rembrandt in 2019, Mizuno teamed up with the Rijksmuseum. So many of the merchandise graphics are inspired by Rembrandt’s The Night Watch or the master himself.
Official Mizuno running shirt
Everyone who signs up for the full marathon automatically receives a breathable, functional Mizuno running shirt, which is included in the registration fee. Those running other distances can order the official running shirt when they register.
Mizuno’s 20 years as main sponsor
This year Mizuno is the main sponsor of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon for the 20th year in a row. Mizuno first worked with Le Champion and all of the other partners to ensure the successful organisation of the event in 2000. Since then, the number of participants has grown from 4,000 to 45,000.
Mizuno was founded in 1906 in Osaka, Japan, where brothers Rihachi and Rizo Mizuno, both with a great passion for sport, set up a small sports shop. Today, athletes all over the world choose to wear Mizuno: superior quality, high-performance products created by innovative technology, Japanese craftsmanship and more than a century of experience.
