Update edition 2020: optimism after easing corona measurements
Last night our Prime Minister announced to ease the corona measurements for events. As long as people can maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between themselves, there will no longer be a maximum number of visitors for meetings from the 1st of July. Permit applications for major events such as the TCS Amsterdam Marathon are assessed by local authorities.
For us this means that together with the municipality of Amsterdam we are going to concretize various scenarios. For this, we will do the maximum that is within our capabilities. We hope to provide all registered participants with more clarity about the details of the marathon weekend. We aim to organize an event with an international competition for elite runners, the Dutch Marathon Championship and all recreational distances. However, we are aware that it remains uncertain for the time being whether the TCS Amsterdam Marathon can actually take place. We live in a world where the situation can change from day to day, so we will continue to monitor developments continuously.
Entry remains valid in case of cancellation
In these uncertain times we would like to give our registered participants clarity on the arrangement we will use when the TCS Amsterdam Marathon needs to be cancelled. The prospects seem positive, but the spreading of the coronavirus remains unpredictable. For participants it is good to know where they stand in case the event could not be organized.
If we need to cancel the TCS Amsterdam Marathon due to the corona virus the registration including ordered extras remains valid for the edition of 2021 on Sunday the 17th of October. This also applies if only several parts of the marathon weekend will be cancelled. Based on our general terms and conditions we are not obliged to offer this arrangement, but we would like to make concessions in these extraordinary times. We find it important that you can still accomplish your goals in Amsterdam, in case this will not be possible this year.
The international character of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon with mainly foreign participants is leading for this arrangement. The TCS Amsterdam Marathon is a World Athletics Platinum Label event and therefore belongs to a select group of 12 other international marathons. We make use of a similar arrangement as these large international marathons.
With optimism towards October
For now, we really would like to hold on to the positive developments. More and more is possible and allowed in the Netherlands. As long as we continue to follow the guidelines of the government, we can continue to maintain this rising trend. Therefore, we and our partners involved are hopeful that there will be a TCS Amsterdam Marathon in an adjusted form on Sunday the 18th of October. In the meantime, we hope that everyone stays healthy and fit. Keep an eye on each other!
