TCS Amsterdam Marathon: Corona update

The scenario feared by all of us has become a reality; this summer, no events will be organised in the Netherlands until 1 September. After this date, the 45th edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is planned for Sunday 18 October. Last year, 45,000 participants lined up to the start of the various races: the TCS Marathon, the Mizuno Half Marathon, the TCS 8K, the Good Morning City Run and the kids runs.

It is understandable that there will be many questions about whether or not the TCS Amsterdam Marathon will go ahead this year. For the time being, we plan to hold the event. But, we are aware that some adaptations will have to be made. Together with our partners and all relevant authorities we are currently doing all we can to find creative solutions so that the TCS Amsterdam Marathon can take place in a safe and responsible manner. We will look at all aspects of the event, from transport to support along the course, and from the starting arrangements to the distribution of the participants. We may have to hold the event with fewer participants. We will let you know as soon as possible once we have looked at the various options more closely.

After this summer, we would love nothing more than to welcome you into the stunning Olympic Stadium for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. Our ‘raison d’etre’ at Le Champion is to inspire people to exercise and take part in sport. And it is currently more important than ever for our message to get through. We have to abide by the government’s measures and advice, however, and will monitor this situation very closely. There is a chance that the ban on events will be extended past 1 September but, for the moment, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon will go ahead in October.

For any questions about registrations as individual participant, business team, charity or travel agency, please refer the Q&A below. If your question is not listed, please contact us using this link.

Q: Can I register for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon?
A. Yes, registration for all elements of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is now open.

Q: When will you decide whether the TCS Amsterdam Marathon will go ahead?
A. Once we have examined all of the possible scenarios, we will make a final decision on the measures that we have to take in order to hold the event in a safe and responsible manner. A. Members of Le Champion may cancel their registrations and any extras until 7 September 2020. Non-members can unfortunately not cancel their registrations.
